Agents overview

An agent is a chat with fixed guidance. You describe once how a recurring task is done, for example writing a quote or answering a customer email. Everyone you share the agent with then starts their chats from that template and has nothing left to explain.

What an agent is made of

Part	What it does
Instructions	Role, task, tone and rules. They apply to every chat with the agent, including ongoing ones, as soon as you save.
Knowledge	Brains the agent searches, and files attached to every chat, such as a Word template.
Conversation starters	Up to 4 suggestions in an empty chat. One click sends them.
Model	A default model for new chats, or "Automatic". People can still pick another one in the chat.
Web search	Whether the agent may look up current information on the web.
Icon, name, description	How colleagues recognise the agent in the list, in the sidebar and in the chat.

You build an agent in an editor with three parts. Under Create you describe in your own words what it should do, and the fields fill in automatically. Under Configure you check and complete the fields. Beside them, you try the agent out in the Preview before anyone else sees it.

Everyday examples

Quote Agent for a fiduciary firm: turns a client enquiry into a quote based on the firm's own fee schedule and fills in the Word template.
Email reply agent for customer service: drafts replies in the company's tone and flags what a person needs to clarify.
HR questions agent on the staff handbook: answers questions about holidays, expenses and working hours, with sources.
Minutes agent: turns meeting notes into clean minutes with a list of action items.

Agent, project or brain?

All three give the model context, but for different purposes. Rule of thumb: knowledge belongs in a brain, the way of working belongs in an agent, and your own ongoing work belongs in a project.
